It is important to remember that, like all terriers, dogs of this breed are extremely active, require long walks, games at home and in the fresh air, are easily trained in various tricks, are always ready to work and entertain their owners. These are hunting dogs, they can chase a squirrel, a cat for hours, look for mice and rats. It is worth considering these features when walking in the city, even a very obedient dog can get carried away and run after another cat, forgetting about the dangers.
Russels by type of wool are divided into two types – smooth-haired and wire-haired. Their hair does not require special care. Wash as necessary with special shampoos for this type of coat. During molting of smooth-haired terriers, comb through a comb with small cloves or iron with a special mitt. In coarse-haired shedding as such, it is not expressed, just as the growth and maturation of the hair need to be plucked with a tool called trimming or just with your fingers, giving the dog a neat appearance. The clumps on the legs and beard can be trimmed with scissors. In no case should you cut such dogs, otherwise the coat will change its structure, become soft and lose its dirt-repellent properties. As a rule, Russell are not picky in food. You can feed with dry, balanced feed or cook porridge, but then you will need additional intake of vitamin supplements. For goodies, it is good to use small pieces of cheese, boiled meat, and cookies for dogs. Toys can also be used to encourage training. Mischief and energy, the desire to join the game at any time, make the toy a particularly valuable object in the eyes of Russell, therefore they perceive it as a great reward after completing the exercise.
Little terriers are very attached to their owners. A meeting even after a short separation always causes an explosion of joy and uncontrollable delight. These are dogs that will not take their eyes off their owners, are always ready for the craziest games and walks, will keep company in sports and, falling asleep, will be compressed by a lump on the lap of a loved one.
