Dog voice tone and handling
The purpose of training is a focused upbringing, during which you make it clear to the dog what behavior is desired. But do not believe those who claim to have raised a faithful and controlled dog through beatings and severe restrictions. I don’t argue, from childhood you can “crush” any puppy by growing an animal out of it that will be afraid and step without a command. Such a dog will never be able to fully open up in the show ring, will not become the winner of sports training, and certainly will not show itself properly as a defender when meeting with ill-wishers.
… One of my acquaintances named Alexander worked in the police patrol service. His four-legged workmate was a powerful and vicious German Shepherd dog with a very eloquent nickname – Vampire. The dog could scare away just by appearance. He worked properly on the course of defense, causing a shock state from squeezing his hands with his powerful jaws and easily knocking a person to the ground. From the outside it seemed that the dog was quite controllable. At the same time, many colleagues knew Alexander’s tough temper, who used a rubber club and a strict collar as the main argument for influencing the shepherd. But it so happened that in the late evening near the own entrance to Alexander a robbery was committed. There were three men, and their fists were heavy. They beat their victim with arms, legs, brass knuckles, and at that time a police dog, trained in the course of defense and attack, stood at a distance and simply watched how other men pounded its cruel owner.
Remember: the dog should in no way be afraid of its owner. Fear breeds insecurity, and insecurity breeds aggression. Your duty is to achieve mutual understanding with your pet, providing a positive attitude, growing respect for the dog towards you and its constant attention. The physical strength of your pet increases with age, and if you use only physical correction methods (for example, pulling on a leash with a jerk chain), then each time you will have to put in more and more effort. As you know, any action leads to opposition.
The more complicated the training course and the older your pet becomes, the greater the role your voice plays in the upbringing process.
Yes Yes! The effectiveness of managing a dog by changing intonation far exceeds the effectiveness of physical exposure. I happened to see dog breeders who for a long time could not get their team to execute a command simply because all the voice signals were sent in the same tone. Some dogs are very sensitive, and the increased tone of the voice acts on them immediately, like a braking signal. Others require a more persistent correction. Still others do not pay attention to the mild effect and respond only to strong irritants. However, the discussion here is by no means about the strength of the blow and the degree of strangulation. All impact on the dog lies in the unique ability of the human voice.
The tone of voice and the control of the dog Dogs cannot speak, so for them the words of human speech are meaningless. For a dog, a word is a complex of sounds, a sound stimulus; and for a person, a word is a concept. In the process of training, the dog is trained to obey sound commands used as conditioned stimuli. At the initial stage, it is especially important to pronounce the commands clearly and uniformly – for example, always say “Sit!” Rather than “Sit!”, “Sit down!” or “Sit down!”. If the emotional trainer distorts the command, speaks empty, persuades the dog or, conversely, scolds it, then this only confuses the animal and confuses it.
The command is not simple, but a complex irritant, as the dog is able to distinguish not only a combination of sounds, but also intonation. In other words, the tonality of the voice plays a huge role in the process of correcting the behavior of an animal. The dog perceives low, jerky sounds as a sign of displeasure and threat. Sounds that are high and lingering are used to greet and express goodwill. If in certain situations you will use a certain tone of voice – this in itself is nothing more than dog training. For example, I can make my Rottweiler Miro perform the basic elements of an obedience course without saying the code commands “Sit!”, “Lie!”, “Stand!”, “Come to me!”, “Near!”, “You can’t!”, And using only the dog’s nickname in a strictly defined key.
However, everyone can do it – he will learn to “speak” like a dog. The dog always associates discontent and prohibition with a low voice. For men, it is in the order of things to speak in that tone. For women and children, they usually need to practice formulating a threatening tone. If you are a lady, then please trace your behavior: at the time of passions you most likely go on to high tonality, quick pronunciation of phrases from inarticulate words.
