How dogs learn

Animal behavior is influenced by hereditary factors and learning. The greater the proportion of the behavioral responses is the training component, the easier it is to control your dog.

Traditionally, the physiological foundations of training are considered from the standpoint of the conditioned reflex theory of I. P. Pavlov. In accordance with it, all forms of animal behavior can be explained on the basis of the principle of reflex neural communication. Moreover, the essence of training consists in the development and use in work of the necessary conditioned reflexes. According to this principle, a previously neutral stimulus — for example, the “Sit!” Command, combined with the forced landing of a dog many times — acquires the value of a conditioned stimulus, launching the arc of the conditioned reflex and causing the required actions of the animal. Without going into the subtleties of physiology, I will say that the arc of the conditioned reflex is the closure of the temporal connection between the auditory and motor centers of the brain. The reflex is considered fixed if the dog, without hesitation, sits in the desired position, barely hearing a familiar sound signal. Continue reading

Feeding newborn puppies

It seems that each of us was faced with a situation where, for example, a little kitten was screaming heart-rendingly all night at the windows of a house, or a homeless tiny puppy was spinning at his feet near a store, hungry and frozen … Unfortunately, very many simply passed by, not paying attention or pretending not to notice the baby. Meanwhile, life was warm in a small calf, and, with hope running up to each person, the animal saw him as its savior. And indeed, it is in our power to help our smaller brothers, because it is not necessary that help should be taken to his home forever – no, you can feed, go out the animal and just give it in good hands, everyone can do it!

Another thing is if puppies were born in your family, and their mother either refused to feed them and look after them, or she does not have or is not enough milk. In this case, you will have to take full responsibility for the care and feeding of the babies. If you show more initiative and responsibility, then in two weeks you will be able to admire your well-fed and beginners to show curiosity to the outside world of pets. Continue reading

Raising a puppy

Raising a dog from a very young age is the basis for further development and socialization. A dog that is “comfortable” in all respects will not cause trouble for you and others, which is especially important in urban conditions.

The purpose of education is to instill in the animal the development of behavioral skills, to ensure the normal development of the nervous system and the development of the required qualities. It is a well-bred dog that will give you true pleasure from communicating with it, will be a reliable partner and faithful companion. It must be remembered that the duration of a dog’s life is on average ten years. And how a dog’s life will turn out depends on the skills instilled in an early puppy age.

The basis of education is based on mutual understanding of the owner and the dog. Before you begin to slap a slipper on a small, fluffy pope, you need to understand how the puppy is guided in a particular situation. What seems like leprosy and games to us, in fact, has some basis under it. Continue reading
